The 2010 Census is Coming
The Obama / ACORN / Census is coming. It is time to begin your planning for the knock on the door.
I am a face to face guy, but I realize that many prefer to fill out the form and mail it in. “What?” you say…..”I’m not filling that thing out”.
I know,…I know. But you really miss the point of just how important the Census is. I feel that it is important to make them come see you.
Suggestions:1. Keep a digital camera handy by your front door. Make sure you take a picture of the person coming to the door. We are going to want to post these pictures on Twitter and web sites and compare them with past / future involvements of the individual with ACORN or Obama campaign activities. Trust me, there will be a small army of Pajama Media folks with face recognition software that will do the leg work.
2. Make sure you write down the name and badge number of the person at your door. They are required to wear one. Be sure to include the information with the picture.
3. Be truthful. If you feel you were transported via spacecraft as a seed and feel your home world is in fact Zarcon, you have the right to consider yourself a Zarconian. Perhaps a transgender Zarconian. I am sure the Census will be interested in your sexual ….what’s the word….thoughts? I like to be detailed and plan to talk alot about sex.
4. The Obama Census is going to be obsessed with race and special interest groups. I suggest joining as many as possible. After all, if you truly feel that we are all African-Americans in our DNA……..Do we not all have physical ailments, learning disabilities, feel tired in the morning?
5. Question #29 – Work – At what location did this person work LASTWEEK? If this person worked at more than one location, print where he or she worked most last week.
Mowing your lawn is work, I suggest letting the government know in detail your activities that you consider work and work related issues.
6. Make sure you are comfortable, after all…it is your home. I don’t hear as well as I used to and I like it when people shout so I can hear them well. I also talk very loud, as I want people to hear me. Again, it is your home, and if you prefer loud music palying all the time, it is your right. I like to share favorite music with visitors, perhaps “Cradle of Filth”, not sure yet. And don’t forget a snack tray! They are guests in your home after all.
7. If it is your habit to wear a Mexican Wrestling Mask while in the comfort of your home and exercise while thinking about questions, I frankly see no need to alter personal behavior. Obama is interested in knowing who we are as people.
8. Religion. The intimate and relaxed setting of your living room or kitchen is an ideal place to talk about religion with your visitors. When the Census questions about religion are asked, it is my opinion that this is a great time to discuss your religious beliefs. If your religion is one where you are required to bring new people into it’s understanding, you might want to be prepared with brochures. Perhaps even offer to play an audio tape from one of your church leaders while you finish the questions.
If your personal religious beliefs, such is Islam, do not allow you to talk to females not in the company of a male relative, be sure to speak up and request a male census worker.
9. Alergies and health is important. If you are sensitive to certain smells, perfume, body odor, aftershave etc., and require face masks…. you may have to request a special needs visit. I suggest preparing your detailed list in advance so it can be slipped under the door to the census worker. In this way it can be given to a supevisor and a special visit arranged to your needs. Remember hand sanitizer kills germs!
10. Privacy/Security – We all can agree that ACORN and the Obama administration can be completely trusted with our private information. However, some may feel that security during the interview is important. Again, it is your home and your personal life being discussed. While no expert on the matter, it is my understanding that tin foil over the windows and light sockets will keep outside agencies from listening in to your interview with the Census worker.
The point here is we need to provide President Obama and his campaign staff with as much information as possible. Please join all of your fellow Americans by full and complete co-operation with the new 2010 Census.

FOLLOW UP: I have received many emails with question about the upcoming Census and am outlining some of them below.
Dear Tom, I was wondering about having friends and relatives over when they come for my census interview. I get confused and it would really help to have ten or twelve people here to help me decide about the questions. Mary Anne – Tampa Florida
Mary Anne, Yes, the important thing is to give as much accurtate information as possible. Again, it is my opinion that as much time and effort as possible should be put into this. Wth a group, you could have a discussion and talk about all merits of a question and garner opinions from the group, perhaps break into sub groups and then come back to a main group to further discuss the question and form a final decision. By all means, start a phone tree with your friends and keep it handy. This is why I prefer to set an appointment time…….Tom
The Arcata Parking Dance
Just when you thought the city of Arcata Ca., couldn’t get weirder…..it does.
If you haven’t had a chance to sit in the plaza from 12-1 pm for a while, check out the show.
In an effort to fleece the public, the city in their wisdom decided not to allow anyone working in the downtown area to park their car for work and make them change parking spots every four hours. This doesn’t actually free up any parking mind you.
Talking with a few office workers I am outlining the system:
Step one. Make a parking buddy.
Step two. You take their spot and they take yours every four hours.
It really is hilarious to sit and watch. Ah…..Arcata, nothing like it is there.
“You put your left foot in……”
Is Virginia Bass Snubbing Humboldt Tea Party Organization
I don’t believe much in coincidences. This Feb 11th from 5-7pm, Eureka Ca. Mayor Virginia Bass , candidate for Humboldt County 4th District Supervisor,
is holding a little get together up at the Zoo. The Zoo? Anyway, the Humboldt Tea Party Organization is holding their meeting at 6 on the 11th up at the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds.
Now I don’t have anything bad to say about Bass, but…..pookie….if you are reading this (and you will) anybody who shows up to glad hand you at the Zoo is already going to vote for you.
Try winning the election without us.

The promise was one of clarification and even enlightenment. One prominent White House representative made the statement during a pre-speech interview that after the president’s address to Congress all questions would be answered, doubt would be gone and there would be “a chicken in every pot”. Wait… sorry I got carried away by the momentous occasion. The hype was amazing! The pre-show antics were much more exciting than the speech itself. I have to tell you, I listened to the speech and all my questions were NOT answered. There is more than enough doubt still remaining in the minds of Americans regarding the feasibility of this massive spending proposal that has borne a multitude of names. If you don’t know what to call it how can you expect America to approve of it? My doubt STILL remains and I certainly don’t have that warm, fuzzy feeling I was expecting after hearing the assurances regarding this monumental oratory.
The question that STILL plagues me is: How are we to pay for this money devouring beast of government expansion and bureaucracy? We heard the president promise yet again, that he will not sign a bill that adds one dime to the budget deficit. If the final bill comes to his desk with more than that one dime added to the budget deficit, does that make it ok since there truly wouldn’t be just ONE dime, there would be trillions of dimes heaped onto an already over taxed, over burdened, struggling citizenry? I guess it’s all a matter of what you deem to be the truth. (More on that later.) When you look at adding to the budget deficit, you have to realize that Government bookkeeping has been one of the wonders of the world for as long as there have been groups who called themselves “The Government”. This malady is not exclusive to any one party and may even be the reason why the phrase “cooking the books” was coined. It’s why people instantly get stomach cramps and become nauseous when they hear the words Ronald Reagan spoke when he said that the most feared words in the English Language are “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” We have all heard the phrases to which I refer. “There will be no tax increases.” “There will be no cuts in any existing assistance programs.” “We do not want to expand government.” All of which usually have results exactly the opposite of the promise made. Again, no one party is more guilty than another. Yet we as the American public are expected to accept the lies and quietly submit or we are labeled as extremists, terrorists, un-American and worse.
The president also restated a talking point we have committed to memory simply because it has been presented so often. He PROMISED that the majority of this bill will be paid for by the savings realized from reducing “waste and fraud” in Medicare and Medicaid. In another part of his speech, however, he likened the highly touted “Public Option” to the Medicare, Medicaid and VA health programs saying it will be run just like they are. Somehow that just presents a twisted line of reasoning. If the current programs are riddled with fraud and waste and over spending, to the point where we can realize billions in savings just by reducing the mishandling of funds, why would we want or even consider creating another system just like them? More importantly, what is it that would lead him to believe that his beloved “Public Option” would not suffer the same outcome? Could it be that he believes it will have a different result simply because it is HIS program? That HE alone has the ability to ensure THIS program will not suffer this horrendous fate because, after all, it is HE, the one and only, who will appoint yet another Czar to watch over it? I have a hard time believing that someone elected to the office of President of the United States of America could be so naïve, or could it be that he is so bold as to believe that WE are. It is either that, or Mr. Obama is beginning to believe his own press.
Continuing in this line of thought, Mr. Obama also restated his promise that the benefits of Medicare will not be reduced. Yet in the current version of HR 3200 now circulating, there are over $600 BILLION in cuts to the program. I am not an economics guru, but it seems pretty plain to me that if you cut funding to a program, something has to be eliminated. You may reply by saying, “But Mr. Wilson that is simply the waste and fraud being eliminated” to which I would reply, BULL! The cuts are not designed to reduce waste, they are not aimed at eliminating fraud, they do nothing to cut the fat, they stop services plain and simple. Yet the rhetoric has continued to be that Medicare and Medicaid will not be touched. Perhaps someone should pass that along to the authors of the bill. I am sure they would like to know before it becomes a public embarrassment… to someone.
I noticed at several times during the address, President Obama made some veiled comments, backhanded threats and even accused “prominent politicians” of lying. He let everyone know that he was not happy about the dissent he is getting from the Congress, Senate and even the lowly American citizen. He stated that the time for bickering is over. Are we to deduce that what was once termed as healthy debate is now seen as bickering or is this just another tactic attempting to shame us into silence? I also have trouble with his statements “… the reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally,” and “…under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.” In practically every version of the Obama-care, Health Care Reform, Insurance Reform or whatever name you have for it, illegal immigrants will be covered to some extent. Money is allotted for reproductive remedies or some other veiled nomenclature that is expressly set aside for abortions. So while what he perceives as lying is not acceptable to the President, he is not above using it as a tactic to achieve his goals. Somehow or other, I don’t believe that you got away with that one, Mr. President. There is an old saying where I come from that says “You can fool the fans, but you can’t fool the players”. The American public has become much more educated and active in politics in recent years. They question, probe, research and dissent, yes dissent, sometimes loudly, sometimes quietly with something as innocuous as a single vote. If that sounds like something that can be disregarded, remember, the single votes, when added to every other single vote of the dissidents, the rabble rousers, right – wing extremist terrorists elect presidents, congressmen and women and senators.
Quite frankly all I saw was the same dog and pony show – with a bit more spit and polish – that has been paraded in front of the American public until it is now a tired and pathetic rerun of a show that never worked. The only difference in the show last night, and it was most definitely a show, was the audience. They were much more inclined to show acceptance and agreement than the participants of the REAL town hall meetings across America. This group is so sickeningly compliant that they had to be issued napkins to wipe the slobber from their mouths. Nancy Pelosi, the renowned Speaker of the House, the scourge of un-American dissenters, was up and down more times than me when I am on my water diet. It was not only unnecessary, it was very distracting. Granted, there were some who did not follow the program. Most notably was the esteemed Congressman from South Carolina, Joe Wilson, who, after hearing yet another untruth, could not contain himself and let fly with “You LIE”. Certainly not appropriate in the setting, but definitely what many of us were thinking, I guarantee it. I myself yelled the very same words at the TV several times during the speech.
The only thing missing from the whole production was Teddy Kennedy. Of course his wife, children and other members of the family were there. And of course Mr. Obama tried to play the guilt card as he made reference to the letter he received from Ted when he learned that his illness was terminal. He quoted several passages in the letter, one of which was “What we face is, above all, a moral issue…” I agree. The moral issue is this. Can you justify the debt that our future generations will inherit as a direct result of this bill simply to satisfy “the great unfinished business of our society”? Personally, I believe that we have already mortgaged their future to the point where, if we continue on this track, the Great Depression will be referred to as the good old days.
No more, Mr. President. For the sake of our children. No more.
Change in Schedule
I will be doing some fill in for a Bay Area Radio station from Aug 24th – about Sept 15th and our daily 8-9 AM program will be on vacation. Tom
Health Care Town Hall Rep Mike Thompson Eureka Ca

2 Sep 2009 – Eureka Ca. Rep. Mike Thompson (D) held his town hall on Health Care at the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds. Approx 600 people attended. A very well behaved crowd. There were the occasional minor disruptions on both sides of the aisle during the event, however, the raucus behaviour we have been witnessing on the cable news networks were not present.
I have been pretty rough on Rep. Thompson for not holding a Town Hall here in Humboldt County. To be fair…he conducted a good event. The micraphone was given at random to people on both sides of the issue. His staff and the DNC, who put the event together did a first rate job and as hard as I looked….could find no bias. The DNC staff who controlled the door and media were friendly to everyone.
It may be that the fizzle has run out on this issue as it regards to Town Halls, or Humboldt County is just…well…more polite than the rest of the country. I don’t know. The crowd was heavily Democratic…to be expected as they put the event together and lets face it, Thompson is their guy.
What was strikingly noticeable by it’s absence were the local Conservative and Republican organizations. The Local Humboldt Tea Party Patriots were there with a delagation, but in this humble writer’s opinion, if the local Republican groups don’t bother to show up and be heard, they should sit down and get out of the way. (I feel the same way about people who don’t vote).
I tried to talk to everyone in the line, most showed up two hours early for the 5:30pm Town Hall. The only difference between the two groups was support / non support for the Public Option. With minor differences the crowd wants the same thing, too bad they never talk to each other. Everyone on both sides expected busses of out of town agitators who would fill the room. There weren’t any. Just regular ole’ Humboldt folks. Which brings me to my closing note….Mike, Mikey…..loose the $1,000 suit and shiny shoes when you cross the Humboldt line, check out the sales at Pickey Pickey Pickey….blend.
As much as it pains me to say this. Rep. Thompson did a good job.

ED NOTE: I will try and get some more video up this weekend. One interview that was interesting to me was with our new Eureka councilwoman Linda Atkins, who was there in line. Despite my intention to work against her re-election, she was a great lady. What impressed me was that she certainly could have cut the line and gotten out of the sun for the two hours she stood there….but she didn’t. It shows character.
REVIEW Inglourious Basterds A new film by Quentin Tarantino
REVIEW – Inglourious Basterds - – A new film by Quentin Tarantino- Aug 22nd 2009
by Tom Fredriksen, Culture Editor for Pipe Line News. E&P oldgloryradio.com
I should state right off the bat that the past few months have been a mixture of anticipation and excitement as I am sure all fellow Quentin Tarantino fans can relate to. We felt iit with Kill Bill, tasted it with Grindhouse, long for the magic of Pulp Fiction.
We all passed the initial IB trailer back and forth of Brad Pitt stomping his foot demanding “Nazi scalps” from his merry band of Jewish revenge seeking soldiers….and well, let’s just admit it….smiled.
“Oh boy” we all thought,
Following on the hits of Grindhouse and fun time Kill Bill twin pack of hot babes and mayhem, a Nazi killing gore fest was just the sorbet I personally craved while I wait patiently for my desert helping of Pulp Fiction II, promised to us.
Having painfully sat through the fifteen minutes of coming attractions and commercials, I had plenty of time to look around the theater. The fellow 20 patrons (300 seat theater) were all as excited as I.
The lights lowered, the titles hit the screen, the popcorn moving faster from bag to mouth, and we waited for the action.
And we waited.
And we waited.
Look, Quentin Tarantino is perhaps one of the best filmmakers of all time. A lot goes with that. Not the least an obligation to surpass previous work. It is an unsigned compact he has with me.
The few and short scenes that Brad Pitt were in are some of the best work Mr. Pitt has done. Delivered perfectly. And you craved more. Considering the hype via the trailers you expected the movie have more Brad. What we got, was an almost deliberate avoidance.
I spoke to a friend of mine who is also a Tarantino fan prior to outlining my feelings on this movie and he questioned my ability to understand what Tarantino was trying to say.
I retorted that a comedian that has to explain a punch line isn’t telling a good joke.
The underlying theme of the movie is two fold. The first, a Jewish revenge flick. To my knowledge never before attempted, let alone filmed. Kudos for that.
The second and more subtle, a stab at the self loathing German people. This is born out by the rave reviews for the film coming out of Germany. Interesting as Inglourious Basterds is as anti-German as it gets. Tarantino takes full advantage of the contempt Germans feel for themselves, a nod in my opinion, is the entire point of the movie.
Acting, dialogue, camera work…all top notch, as usual.
Character development, story line, delivery….lacking, unusual.
Perhaps the over the top Steve Martinish comical portrayal of Hitler, set against professional dramatic acting of the rest of the cast works in Film School honor class discussions down at the quad….., but for a $10.00 ticket and similarly priced popcorn and soda, I want to be warned I am about to see an art film.
Without giving too much away, as I do recommend waiting for the DVD to hit the video rental outlets, the silliest thing I have seen Tarantino do had to be the quazi ending of the film with a giant Jewish Head laughing down as burning Nazis…who Tarantino dangled in front of us but would not show, screamed and tried to get away. Yawn. At least in Kill Bill Quentin had the common courtesy to put out after we bought dinner.
BRIGHT SPOTS
Oscar nod to Christoph Waltz , the Nazi (Col Hans Landa) “Jew Hunter” Talk is he may be nominated in a supporting role, however, he was the star in this movie despite the credit nod to an elusive and often absent Brad Pitt. It pains me a bit to say this, but the movie is worth the price of admission for Waltzs’ work, despite my feeling of betrayal toward Tarantino.
Further nod to French actress Mélanie Laurent, ( Shosanna Dreyfus) who graces the screen as a vengful Jewish girl with a sense of the dramatic. Easy on the eyes and somehow able to keep shoes on her feet throughout the movie. (Tarantino fans will understand).
Oddly enough young BJ Novak, (one of the producers of NBCs The Office and cast member Ryan) was cast as a “Basterd” his spelling, not mine. The kid has game, watch for him to show up in a future Tarantino movie.
It may be that I am just not smart enough, as my friend hinted at. That may be true. When I go to a Tarantino movie I just don’t want to think that much. I want what I was promised.
Based on the comments of my fellow film watchers this afternoon as we silently and sloop shouldered shuffled out of the theater, I wasn’t alone.
2.5 stars, I was going to give it three, but just remembered that the music was lame and even included music from “Kill Bill”.
Why Quentin Why? Was it us…it is something we did? Did you lose a bet?
The Nazis weren’t the only ones getting scalped. Frankly I want my money back.
